Candidate Statement
Linda LaFerrera
My husband, Vito, and I moved to LHS 12 years ago. From our first visit, LHS felt like home, and it continues to do so today.
Professionally, my background includes having served the children of Union City, NJ as a public school speech therapist for 37 years before my retirement in 2010. My responsibilities included extensive interaction with parents and advocates of children with learning disabilities, including knowledge of, and compliance with, state and federal laws regarding their rights. Diplomacy is of paramount importance when dealing with this most special population, and it was during these many years of service that my interpersonal communication skills were honed.
Once we moved to Lions Head South, I began serving on the Lions Pride editing committee right after my “new residents” meeting in 2011, and now serve as assistant editor. Shortly after I began working on the Pride, I also joined the Clubhouse Committee, after which I was also asked to serve as chairperson of the Welcoming Committee. I chaired that committee for a few years until I was appointed in 2012 to the Board of Trustees to fulfill a vacated position. I was subsequently elected to two more 2-year terms before the birth of my granddaughter precluded my ability to run again due to family obligations and time constraints. For the past 4 years I have been the voice behind the Sunday night robocall messages that keep us informed about our community happenings. I have also been the piano accompanist for the Lions Head Chorus for the past 10 years, the most fun group of wonderful people I have ever met!
The Board notified me in July (2022) that one of our trustees could no longer serve, and I was honored to be asked to complete the term. I have a deep commitment to serving our community in a positive way, so I humbly accepted the request. It is my pleasure to do so.
